Trekking In The Bale Mountains – Bale Mountains National Park
Bale Mountains in the south are also home to some unique wild life, and are ideal for trekking.
Bale Mountains National Park is the largest area of Afro-Alpine habitat in the whole of the continent. It gives the visitor opportunities for unsurpassed scenic driving and the chances to view many of Ethiopia’s endemic mammals, in particular the Mountain Nyala, Menelik Bush Buck and Semien Fox, and birds, such as the Thick-billed Raven, Wattled Ibis, Blue-winged Goose, and Rouget’s Rail.The second highest peak in Ethiopia, Tullu Dimtu (4377m), is among many peaks in the trekking route.
The Bale Mountains is an ideal place for trekking that combines stunning scenery, endemic mammals and birds of Ethiopia additional reward for any one set out for this trip.
Day 01: arrive in Addis Ababa. Hotel
Day 02: Drive to Bale Mountains Head Quarter, Dinsho. The scenery is extraordinary, particularly the last hour as you climb up through forests overlooking valleys. About 5km before Dinsho you come to the swampy Gaysay Grasslands, the first section of the National Park. Overnight Camping
Day 03: In Dinsho and Gassay, swampy grassland. The day is dedicated in search of endemic mammals as same time acclimatization walk. Camping
Day 04: Trek to Mararo 5-6 hrs through the lush highland vegetation to our first campsite, Mararo. Camping
Day 05:To Wasema Valley (7- 8 hrs). Camping
Day 06: To Gebre Guracha, day of ascending to Sanetti Plateau, an outstanding example of Afro-Alpine moorland. Here, you will enjoy close up views of the Simien wolf, and cross Batu Mountain, 4200m. Camping
Day 07: To Little Batu making another way back to the direction of the Head Quarter, Dinsho (6 – 7 hrs). Camping
Day 8: Trek back to Dinsho Head Quarter (5 – 6 hrs). Camping
Day 9: Drive back to Addis evening Departure: Drive back to Addis Ababa. Evening a fare well dinner party in one of the traditional Ethiopian restaurant with music and dances from different ethnic groups. Departure
